Jonathan Massimi draws on the principles and tools of Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) to lead communities through transformational change. ABCD is a positive approach to matching a community’s strengths to its needs by identifying the gifts and skills that exist within the community, engaging “connectors” to bring people together and mobilizing it all into action.

ABCD was introduced to the Green Wood community in 2019 when Massimi led a workshop called Mobilizing the Neighbourhood. He returns this month as we dare to imagine our emergence from the disruption of the past 14 months and consider where we go from here.

“We find ourselves in a unique time, searching for answers to a problem whose scope is beyond anything we have ever encountered before. It is affecting our jobs, families, and communities. However, it is in communities that we will find the solutions to emerge stronger and more resilient than ever.”

Because this position is made possible by Canada Summer Jobs, applicants must be Canadian citizens who are between 15 and 30 years of age.

Duties (within pandemic safety guidelines) will include:
-Invite and encourage participation in community garden, food preparation and outdoor program activities by community members, particularly those living with disability and effects of poverty
-Facilitate garden functions in cooperation with community garden team members
-Day-to-day garden management and maintenance, communication and relationship management with public and volunteer community gardeners, recordkeeping
-Inform all gardeners, garden volunteers and visitors of safety requirements, and ensure all equipment is in safe working condition
-Perform administrative responsibilities related to the community garden and outdoor programs.
