SOCKS FOR ADVENT 11/29/2015

Thanks to the congregation of Cobourg's Trinity United Church, toes will be warmed this winter. Following the First Sunday of Advent service where David Sheffield was a guest speaker, Trinity Minister, Nancy Lester, presented him with large supply of warm socks, collected by church members. The socks are a valuable part of Green Wood's winter warmth distribution.

EATING TOGETHER FOR A CHANGE 11/17/2015

Green Wood was featured in a presentation called "Eating Together: The Role of Food in Community" at Trent University's Why Act? series in Peterborough, where Carlee Giffen, David Sheffield and Cyndi Gilmer were invited to speak. The week-long series provides a space for academics, social activists and students to address the way in which Social Justice can happen in this community and across the globe. In preparation for speaking at Why Act?, Carlee organized a shared meal, last week, with a few friends at Green Wood's downtown space. Butternut Squash Curry and good conversation were on the menu.

CONGRATULATIONS! 11/15/2015

Congratulations to Linda Alcock of Omemee, Ontario for being the lucky ticket holder in our Gourmet Dinner Party Raffle, drawn at the Walk the Line concert. Chef Gary Cole recently prepared a memorable dinner for four in the Alcock's beautiful new home. Many thanks to Chef Gary as well as his assistant,Marlyne, for the generous offer of their time and talent in the kitchen.

Thanks also to St. Lawrence Flowers, Harden & Huyse Chocolates and Keint-He Winery for adding their special touches to the dinner package. In addition to a wonderful dinner at the Alcock home, the raffle benefited Green Wood Coalition's program fund by just over one thousand dollars.

STRAIGHT DOWN THE LINE 11/14/2015

From tender, hear-a-pin-drop moments to foot-stomping singalongs, Walk the Line: Celebrating the Spirit of Johnny Cash delivered a moving and memorable experience for all involved. The one-day festival featured outstanding folk and roots performers from throughout Ontario as well as thoughtful speakers from our own community, all bringing a message of hope and positive social change in celebration of Johnny Cash's legacy. A great culmination of much behind-the-scenes work by ​Artistic Director, David Newland, and Green Wood staff.
